Metro I-605 Corridor Improvement Project

  • The I-605 freeway is one of the busiest in greater LA, with frequent congestion and higher-than-average collision rates.

  • The I-605 Corridor Improvement Project was proposed to enhance safety and traffic flow.

  • In 2020, Metro delayed the Draft EIR/EIS due to concerns over property relocations and directed staff to explore less impactful solutions.

  • In 2023, Metro and Caltrans redesigned alternatives, focusing on reduced residential impact, increased multi-modal options, and alignment with equity and environmental policies..

Downey Council Member Claudia Frometa explains Metro I-605 project at recent meeting.

  • An extensive community re-engagement effort was executed on behalf of Metro and Caltrans during the months of July, August, and September 2024.

  • More than 300 people participated in the meeting series and over 200 public comments were received.

  • Outreach tools for this project included a stakeholder database, comment log, website, and print and digital collateral materials.

  • Notification and engagement efforts included distributing direct mailers, flyers, door-to-door notices, eblasts, and social media posts.

  • Have a fun recipe? Share it!

Recreate Genoveva Arellano’s warm bowl of homemade pozole rojo. It is a hearty and flavorful dish that’s perfect for cozying up on cold nights. Packed with tender hominy, savory broth, and rich spices, this pozole is a true comfort dish for fall.
