Introducing Keven

  • Can you tell us about your family?

I am the second oldest of four siblings. I have three brothers and a husky named Blue, who has one blue eye and one brown eye. I also have two amazing parents that immigrated from Mexico to the United States.

  • What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done?

For my birthday, I decided to travel to Paris, France, with the goal of watching the Champions League at a local bar (Paris was the host city that year for the soccer tournament). A few pints later, I ended up watching the second half of the game on my phone at a music festival instead. This is the most adventurous thing I have ever done.

  • What is something you would like to share that most people don't know about you?

I volunteered as a ball boy for Los Angeles Football Club before they started their inaugural season for Major League Soccer. During a match, I got to meet Spanish World Cup legend, David Villa, and Mexican soccer player, Carlos Vela (pictured).

  • Do you have a hobby? How did you start this hobby?

I recently completed my first Olympic triathlon (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run). I decided to join a triathlon team this year and commit to training almost every week. I wanted to see how far I could push my mental and physical self, as well as develop some healthier habits and discipline. Hopefully after writing this, I will have signed up for my first marathon.

  • Do you have a favorite birthday memory?

One year, my favorite Mexican soccer team, Chivas de Guadalajara, won their league title on my birthday. It is my favorite birthday memory because they have not won it since.

  • Can you share a favorite restaurant you recommend to your AA peers?

One of my favorite restaurants is Slurpin’ Ramen Bar. They have the best ramen; I recommend ordering it spicy and with an egg. Also order the pan-fried beef gyozas and the sesame chicken.

  • Five songs all AA staff should have on their playlist:

    1. “Moscow Mule” - Bad Bunny

    2. “Valió la Pena” - Marc Anthony

    3. “Azul” - Zoe

    4. “El Pavido Navido” - Valentín Elizalde

    5. “Desenfocao'“ - Rauw Alejandro

  • What is your favorite place you have traveled to?

My favorite place I have traveled to is Tequila, Mexico. I went a year ago and learned about how tequila is made, how to tell different tequilas apart, and of course, how to drink tequila. I then went on a tequila tour where the tour bus was shaped like a tequila barrel. 10/10 recommend the experience!

  • What's your favorite book, movie or TV series, and why did it leave an impact on you?

My favorite movie is La La Land. I went into the movie theater not knowing it was a musical and I left inspired to get my heart broken.

  • If you were stranded on a deserted island, which three items would you want with you and why?

If I was stranded on an island, the only three items I would want are a pair of sunglasses, a reclining beach chair, and a Kindle preloaded with over a hundred books. I would take this time to relax and enjoy the evening sunsets.

  • It’s AA’s 30th Anniversary! Can you share how you came to AA?

I came to AA after working as a Recruiting Operations Coordinator at Google and living in San Jose. I saw an opportunity to return to Southern California and develop/improve my skillset, while focusing my work on community projects. My current position allows me to help make information more accessible to all people.

  • What is your favorite thing about working at AA?

My favorite part about working at AA is being part of various projects and the people I work with, who are great!
