Metro Southeast Gateway Line Project ---------------

Metro Southeast Gateway Line Project ---------------

In August 2023, Metro embarked on a transformative renaming campaign for the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor, a project that has been in the public eye since 2016. The project gets its name from the Pacific Electric’s historic West Santa Ana Branch Line, which originates in Orange County. However, in Los Angeles, this name easily caused confusion among the community, Metro staff, and elected officials, so, it was decided to rename the project! The winning name was Southeast Gateway Line!

  • We were thrilled to receive over 1,200 creative name suggestions for the project. Twelve names were then presented to the public for voting in November 2023, sparking an overwhelming response. The campaign garnered over 4,500 votes, nearly half of which were cast in the first two days alone. The excitement extended beyond the community, as local media outlets like KTLA5 showcased the campaign, further amplifying its reach and impact.

  • The culmination of our renaming campaign was marked by a press conference orchestrated in collaboration with Supervisor Janice Hahn. The event was a celebration of community and culture, featuring captivating performances by Aztec dancers and a local high school jazz band. Inclusivity was a priority, with ASL interpretation ensuring accessibility for all attendees.

  • The excitement extended beyond the physical venue, as the event was live streamed on Metro's Facebook account, allowing a broader audience to join in the celebration. The successful execution of this memorable event earned us accolades from our client Mark Dierking, Supervisor Janice Hahn's office, and Marisa Perez, Transportation Deputy for Metro Director Fernando Dutra.

  • Congratulations to Edgar's and Margaret's teams for their invaluable support during this bustling phase of the project. A special shoutout to Kyle and Dan for their artistic flair in design, photography, and videography. This journey has been a collaborative effort, and we couldn't have achieved our milestones without everyone's dedication and hard work!

  • On April 25, the Metro Board of Directors certified the Project's Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), marking a significant milestone in the project's development. As Janice Hahn, LA County Board Supervisor, highlighted during the meeting, "This is the project that everyone has been waiting for."
